Nootka Sound Hiking Transportation

Hiking the Nootka Trail or the Tatchu Trail

Both of these trails are remote and require marine and/or air access. Get West Adventure Cruises offers marine transportation aboard the MV Uchuck III. Air transportation is available with Air Nootka who’s office is adjacent to ours at the Gold River Municipal Wharf.

Nootka Trail

Access Vancouver Island's newest remote coastal trail with a cruise aboard the M.V. Uchuck III. With the famed West Coast Trail becoming so crowded that people planning to hike it need reservations, the Nootka Trail offers a 35-kilometre hike through the same kind of wild, pristine wilderness, but without the crowds.

You can access Nootka Trail from either the north or south end of Nootka Island.  Most people hike the trail from north to south starting at Louie Bay via Air Nootka (250-283-2255) and ending at Friendly Cove (Yuquot) where they meet the M.V. Uchuck III for transportation back to Gold River.

Best Hike calls the Nootka Trail "One of the best hikes in the World" and citing it as "a great alternative to the ultra-popular West Coast Trail"!

Strathcona Park Lodge offers Nootka Trail Guided Hiking Expedition (in August) in conjunction with Get West Adventures.

For a more relaxed experience many hikers and families camp at Friendly Cove and enjoy day excursions from there. The M.V. Uchuck III provides scheduled sailings to and from this remarkable historical site on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout the summer months.
